Time for another U Devour-International Edition. My sister Becki recently traveled to Eastern Europe for her birthday. While she was there she enjoyed a multitude of magnificent meals. Fortunately for you and I, she shared some of here photos with us!
The first meal looks very interesting and deluxe, but I guess looks were decieving. Becki writes:
It was a pretty simple veggie taco plate at a Mexican place in the Friedrichshain neighborhood in East Berlin. The place had ambiance and provided the path of least resistance. The “martini” is actually a margarita. It was the first time I’d ever seen it prepared in a martini glass. Go figure! But then again, I was a loooong way from the source continent! If only I could have samples some of Germany’s delectable sausages!
In case you’re wondering, She couldln’t sample the delectable sausages because she's vegetarian.
The second meal is Turkish street food, but one of my most enjoyable meals due to the location, people watching and stimulating conversation with the German couple and their baby who sat across from me. They offered to take the photo and I told them all about your blog.
This meal was a combo plate of spicy, curried vegetables and grape leaves stuffed with rice and seasonings with bread. It was savory & delicious. The people were so warm and welcoming. Istanbul is now on my short list of future travel destinations.
The final item is not a pizza! Its called a Lango and it was found in Budapest.
The lango is from the Great Market Hall in Budapest (my favorite destination of my trip). The hall reminded me of a larger Pike Place Market. It’s been in continuous operation since 1896. I thought the pizza route was too close to home, so I went for something more authentic to the region…a heaping helping of pickled purple cabbage. It was one of the tastiest things I ate on my trip (aside from the gellato and ice cream, which was plentiful EVERYWHERE I went in Eastern Europe). The perfect crust (salty, light, chewy with a slightly crispy exterior). I could have eaten a langos for every meal!
Well there u have it folks! A fine U devours post from far away lands indeed! Thanks for sharing Becki! Check out her photography and other fun photos from her extensive travels at http://www.flickr.com/photos/fecki/.
