TRACES OF THE TRACELESS
ISLAMIC ART FESTIVAL, SHARJAH ART MUSEUM, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
DEC 2021 - JAN 2022

This exhibition presents physical manifestations of the wordless, the formless, and the traceless.

The artworks are calligraphic, tactile, and architectural -- reinterpretations of themes familiar to the Islamic world. Through a process which involves a kind of merging of the physical and the immaterial, Samimi seeks to locate a place of inner peace and stillness. These artworks are visual expressions of prayer, material articulations of his search for that which lies beyond the tangible. To the artist, each work in the exhibition echos the passage by Rumi:

“My place is the Placeless, my trace is the Traceless ;
'Tis neither body nor soul, for I belong to the soul of the Beloved.
I have put duality away, I have seen that the two worlds are one;
One I seek, One I know, One I see, One I call. ”

Visual expressing the notion of Transition and Change as a guiding and governing force in this world, Samimi believes that through paying tribute to the changing universe in which we live, he may better understand his true nature as an aspect of it.
